About the Haggis Wildlife Foundation
The Foundation
The Haggis Wildlife Foundation exists to document, protect and celebrate the wild haggis (Haggis scoticus) — Scotland's most elusive native animal, and the only one most people refuse to believe in until they've seen one.
We are aware of the rumours. We do not engage with them. The haggis is a real, documented animal, and the documentation is extensive.
The animal
The wild haggis is a small, round, densely furred creature found across the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands. Highland haggis have three legs, two front, one rear, an arrangement perfectly suited to steep hillsides. It is shy, it is fast around a slope, and it has been quietly getting on with things in Scotland for a very long time.
The Grand Survey
Every confirmed haggis subspecies is recorded in the Grand Survey, the Foundation's official register, begun with Entry One: The Wee Ginger of the Tweed Valley. The Survey grows as fieldwork continues. It always continues.
The Rangers
The Foundation is supported by the Haggis Wildlife Rangers, volunteers of all ages who watch the hillsides so the rest of us can sleep.
