The Stirling White Tash Haggis has become one of the most famous and instantly recognisable Wild Haggis animals ever documented by the Haggis Wildlife Foundation.
Distinguished by its remarkably round brown body, three sturdy legs and magnificent divided white moustache, this unusual Scottish subspecies is rather difficult to forget once you have seen it. Since first appearing in Foundation footage, the White Tash has captured the attention of viewers throughout Scotland and far beyond.
Watch the Stirling White Tash Haggis
Following the release of our latest video, the White Tash quickly became one of the Foundation’s most widely viewed haggis animals. Millions of viewers have now encountered this distinctive creature through our official social-media channels, with its splendid facial furniture proving particularly hard to ignore.
What Makes the White Tash So Recognisable?
The Stirling White Tash Haggis is known scientifically as Haggis scoticus albivibrissa. Its name refers to the thick, pale facial hair that divides naturally at the centre, creating the animal’s unmistakable white moustache.
And unmistakable it certainly is.
The prominent tash provides a striking contrast against the animal’s dense chestnut-brown coat. Alongside its compact, almost suspiciously round body, glossy black eyes and characteristic three-legged stance, it makes the Stirling White Tash immediately identifiable, even when recorded at a considerable distance.
For anyone fortunate enough to spot one in the wild, the moustache is usually the giveaway.
A Famous Member of the Foundation’s Archive
The White Tash has become an important part of the Haggis Wildlife Foundation’s growing archive of Scottish Wild Haggis animals.
Our archive records the appearance, behaviour and regional identity of the different haggis populations found throughout Scotland. Each new sighting helps build a clearer picture of the extraordinary variety present within the wider Haggis scoticus family, from subtle regional differences to specimens that are anything but subtle.
The Stirling White Tash falls firmly into the latter category.
Its memorable appearance has made it a favourite among followers of the Foundation and introduced a new audience to the fascinating, and occasionally rather peculiar, world of Scotland’s Wild Haggis.
The Official White Tash T-Shirt
Following the remarkable response to the video, the Stirling White Tash Haggis is now available as an official Haggis Wildlife Foundation T-shirt.
The design features our original illustrated study of the animal, accompanied by its common name, scientific classification and the official Foundation emblem.
The new Light Logo Edition has been created especially for darker garments, using bright lettering and a light Foundation emblem to give the design a clear, distinctive finish.
A fitting tribute, we think, to one of the finest moustaches currently known to Scottish wildlife.
